A coastal and estuarine operational oceanography system to support environmental, maritime and climate services in the northern coast of Spain
COSNORTH aims to develop a Coastal and Estuarine Operational Oceanography system to provide Environmental, Maritime and Climate downstream Services on the North coast of Spain
- Improvement of the (pre) Operational CMS – Cantabrian Coast (MARION project)
- Estuarine Operational Modelling System (SDR-EMS) to Santander Bay and the Port of Santander
- Use Case 1 (MARLAW): maritime surveillance and law enforcement on Cantabria’s coast
- Use Case 2 (FLOODPORTS): flooding risk prevention in port facilities located in estuaries.
Dissemination and Capacity Building
- Promote the use of Copernicus Marine data at national level
- New high-resolution marine data in coastal areas
- New methods based on AI
- Promotion and dissemination of CMS
- To foster the engagement of new users.
- Support national authorities in the implementation of several EU policies and Directives in terms of environmental protection, prevention and reduction of marine pollution, law enforcement and climate resilience.
- Maritime surveillance and law enforcement (EU Directive 2009/123/EC and Directive 2024/1203)
- Adaptation Strategies with the Flood Directive 2007/60/EC.
