Main Objectives
To develop a Coastal and Estuarine Operational Oceanography system to provide Environmental, Maritime and Climate downstream Services on the North coast of Spain
COSNORTH aims to enhance environmental, maritime, and climate-related services along Spain’s northern coast by developing operational systems for marine monitoring and prediction in coastal and estuarine areas, to provide advanced tools for environmental risk management and protection and maritime surveillance.
Expected Results
CANTABRIA-OCFS
Cantabria Operational Coastal Forecast System: A Coastal Operational Modelling System nested to CMS Analysis and Forecast IBI-PHY to provide high-resolution (~300 m) forecast of marine variables on Cantabrian’s coast (North of Spain).
SANTANDER-OEFS
An innovative Estuarine Operational Modelling System, based on the combination of numerical modelling and Artificial Intelligence/machine learning to provide high-resolution (~50 m) of marine variables in the Bay of Santander and Port of Santander (Cantabria).
Use Case 1
SEMAR DSS:
A maritime surveillance tool supporting law enforcement and pollution control. Application in the Cantabrian coast (North of Spain).
Use Case 2
FLOODPORT Service:
An early warning system for flooding risk prevention in ports facilities located in estuaries. Application in the Bay of Santander.
